Celebrating 100 years of serving our community !

Happy 100th birthday English Center!

Who We Are

We currently have 100  students from over 35 countries around the world. Classes are taught only in English and include skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening.   We educate all adult English Language Learners in a welcoming and respectful environment.  Our goal is to provide skills that will enable our students to become productive members of our community.

We have OPEN ENROLLMENT from September to May.

Our History

The English Center, a nonprofit charitable community organization,  has its roots in the International Institute of Youngstown which was established in 1918 to provide foreign-born English Language Learners programs to help them adjust to life in the United States.  In 1986, The International Institute became a foundation and The English Center was created.  We continue to carry on the important mission of providing a warm and caring atmosphere where adults from other countries can attend English Language classes free of charge!

Our skilled and dedicated teachers focus on the four standards of speaking, reading, writing, and listening with the ultimate goal of facilitating communication and conversation skills for every aspect of life.

While at The English Center, students form bonds with other students from around the world, have interactions in a cross-cultural environment, learn about  the social traditions and customs of America, and become better adjusted to life in their community and neighborhood.

Thank you wonderful students and wonderful staff who are part of The English Center!
